TI (Toastmasters International) - TI, a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The first Toastmasters club was established on October 22, 1924, in Santa Ana, California, by the much revered and beloved Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, who conceived and developed the idea of helping others to speak more effectively. More clubs were formed, and Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932. Toastmasters International's business and services are administered by its World Headquarters.

Cosmopolitan Club # 515 Credo:

We’re delighted you chose to visit our club. Cosmopolitan 515 was founded in 1947 by a group of professionals who desired to improve their public speaking skills. It was and still is a dinner club that facilitates the need for working people to combine a meal with a meeting in the time between 6 and 8PM. Breaking bread together adds a social dimension that often leads to friendships and membership that endures for 40 + years.

In honor of a past member we describe our program as the Nybergian Triad: Intellectual rigor, speaking skill and fun. We are among the few clubs that regularly conducts a business meeting that develops and maintains skill with Roberts Rules of Order; the same discipline utilized by the US House of Representatives. From Homeowners Association to Congress, knowledge of this discipline provides a distinct advantage for those who aspire to leadership roles.

We provide three approaches to skill development:

  • Traditional Toastmasters manuals that provide a step-by-step approach to all the facets of public speaking. “Moving Forward By Looking Back” is our traditional, analog approach.

  • Self-Directed: By observing others one quickly develops a style and can choose any appropriate topic.

  • Pathways – The current Toastmasters International program that is digitally driven.

Our current membership includes Attorneys, PHD Psychology, PHD Chemistry, MA Social Science, Computer Systems, Engineers, Sales Professionals, Health Care Professionals and others. Intellectual rigor and continuous learning are the by-products we experience as a result.

We also have a lot of fun. Satire, humorous speeches, inside baseball all result from our being a Cosmopolitan family composed of friends we respect and enjoy.

If you identify a member as a resource, that person will gladly provide mentorship support as requested.

If you have questions, please contact our current Vice President Membership George Heim at geo55337@gmail.com.
